Planning a holiday to Bali? Check to see if you qualify for Indonesia’s Visa Exemption Arrangement (VEA).
If you’re a tourist planning on visiting Bali, you’re probably wondering if you need a Bali visa to enter Indonesia.
If you’re a citizen of the following 10 countries, you do not need a Bali visa to enter Bali, Indonesia, thanks to the country’s Visa Exemption Arrangement (VEA).
You only need a passport with a 6 months validity from your date of entry into Indonesia.
The 10 countries are:
1. Brunei Darussalam
2. Cambodia
3. Lao PDR
4. Malaysia
5. Myanmar
6. Philippines
7. Singapore
8. Timor Leste
9. Thailand
10. Vietnam
VEAs are free and are valid for only 30 days. Extensions are not allowed.
Citizens of other countries must apply for a Bali visa to enter Indonesia. The most convenient visa for tourists entering Bali would be the Visa On Arrival (VOA).
New: Electronic Visa On Arrival
Visitors coming to Bali can now apply for an electronic VOA before arrival on the Indonesian Immigration website here.
Remember to apply for your e-VOA at least 14 days before your date of departure to Bali.
VOAs cost IDR 500,000 per person and is valid for 30 days. You will need to have a passport that is valid for at least six months upon arrival in Indonesia, and you will need to provide proof of onward travel.

You will need to have the following documents to get your VOA:
- A valid passport with at least six months validity from the date of arrival in Indonesia
- A completed visa application form (available at the VOA counter)
- A copy of your return ticket or onward travel itinerary
- A passport-sized photograph (2×2 inches)
- Payment for the VOA fee, currently USD 50 per person
Visa On Arrival (VOA) At Bali Airport
You can also apply for a Visa On Arrival (VOA) when you arrive at Bali Ngurah Rai International Airport.
Upon arrival in Bali, proceed to the VOA counter at the immigration area. Present your documents, pay the fee, and have your fingerprints scanned. The VOA will be issued electronically and attached to your passport.
Your VOA is valid for 30 days and can be extended for another 30 days at Immigration offices in Indonesia. Don’t forget to prepare all the documents needed and the fee.
