What is a Retirement Visa in Indonesia?

A Retirement Visa (KITAS Lansia) allows you to reside in Indonesia long-term and is available to foreign nationals aged 60 or older. This visa grants a stay of 1 year, which can be extended annually for up to 5 years, after which you can apply for permanent residency (KITAP).

Who Can Apply for a Retirement Visa?

To qualify for a retirement visa in Indonesia, you must meet the following requirements:

  • Age: You must be 60 years or older.
  • Income: Proof of stable income or pension (minimum of USD 3,500 per month).
  • Accommodation: Lease or purchase of a property in Indonesia.
  • Health Insurance: You must have health and life insurance.
  • Employment Restriction: You are not allowed to work in Indonesia under this visa.

How to Apply for a Retirement Visa?

Required Documents for Retirement Visa

To apply for a Retirement Visa in Bali, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Must be 60 years or older at the time of application.
  • Color copy of passport with at least 18 months of validity.
  • Proof of pension fund or monthly income of at least US$ 3,500 from a financial institution.
  • Bank statement showing a balance of at least US$ 2,000 for the past 3 months.
  • Color copies of health, life, and liability insurance.
  • Curriculum vitae (CV).
  • Proof of accommodation: either a purchase invoice (minimum US$35,000) for a house or apartment, or a rental contract with a minimum cost of US$500/month in Bali, Jakarta, or Bandung. Other regions have lower rental thresholds.
  • Statement agreeing to employ a local housekeeper/maid.
  • If married, a copy of your marriage certificate.
  • Documents must be in English or translated by a sworn translator (we provide translation services).

Important Note on Eligibility
According to Minister Regulation No. M.04-IZ.01.02 of 1998 and M.07-IZ.01.02 of 2006 (effective 31 August 2006), the Retirement Visa is only available to citizens of specific countries.

Eligible countries include: Argentina, Australia, Austria, Bahrain, Belgium, Brazil, Brunei, Bulgaria, Canada, Cyprus, Denmark, Egypt, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, India, Iran, Ireland, Iceland, Italy, Japan, Kuwait, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Maldives, Malta, Monaco, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Oman, the Philippines, Poland, Portugal, Qatar, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, South Africa, South Korea, Spain, Suriname, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, Thailand, UAE, the UK, and the USA.

Retirement Kitas Details

  • The Retirement KITAS is valid for 1 year and can be extended annually for up to 5 years. After this period, you can apply for a permanent resident permit (KITAP).
  • A telex visa will be issued by an Indonesian embassy of your choice, valid for 60 days from the date of approval. Contact the embassy beforehand for specific rules.
  • After receiving your VITAS (limited stay visa), you must enter Indonesia within 90 days.
  • Only travel agents with the necessary business permits, like MPG, can act as your local sponsor and manage your visa application and extensions. 

Retirement Visa Application Process

We’ll handle your application with the Department of Immigration. Once approved by the Directorate General, a telex visa will be issued and sent to the Indonesian embassy of your choice. You have 60 days to collect the visa, after which it expires, requiring reapplication. We’ll notify you when it’s ready.After collecting your Retirement Visa, you’ll enter Indonesia and submit your passport to us for processing your KITAS (Temporary Stay Permit) at Bali immigration. You’ll then need to visit the immigration office for signing, a photo, and fingerprints.Once in Indonesia with the retirement visa, you must stay until the KITAS process is complete. Upon arrival, submit your passport to our office within 30 days to start the KITAS process, which takes approximately 14 working days. Once done, you’ll receive your passport and an electronic KITAS.

Additional Information on Retirement Visa

Citizens from 24 countries can apply for the Retirement Visa Bali, allowing you to stay in Indonesia for one year, with the possibility of extending your stay for up to five years.

Important: Visa extensions are required every year, and the process starts one month before your KITAS expires. Ensure you are in Indonesia at least two weeks before your KITAS expiry to avoid complications. If you are abroad and your KITAS expires, it will be revoked, and you will be granted a tourist visa upon re-entry. To reinstate your retirement KITAS, a new application will be necessary.

The Retirement KITAS includes a multiple-entry visa, meaning you can travel in and out of Indonesia as many times as you like within a year.

Note: This visa does not permit any form of employment in Indonesia. It is purely for enjoying your retirement in this beautiful country.
