Bali KITAS Newborn Baby

Bali KITAS For Your Newborn Baby: A Step-By-Step Guide

New parents in Bali; congratulations on the arrival of your newborn! As a foreign parent and a non-Indonesian citizen, your baby (or babies) will need the correct paperwork or stay permit to be able to stay in Indonesia legally.

In today’s post, we’re going to take you through the step-by-step process of how to register your baby’s birth in Bali, Indonesia and the processes of how to obtain a KITAS (Temporary Stay Permit) for your little one.

This post is specifically for foreign parents who are KITAS or KITAP holders in Bali. If you have a newborn and on a different type of visa, please contact us to discuss visa options or stay permits for your baby.

Step 1: Start with the Birth Certificate

The first task on your to-do list will be registering your baby’s birth in Bali, Indonesia. Before you can move on to getting your baby’s passport and KITAS, you’ll need to get the birth certificate. The birth certificate is crucial because it’s needed to assign your baby a NIK (Nomor Induk Kependudukan), an identification number that is required for many legal procedures.

Documents Required to Process the Birth Certificate:

If you’re a KITAS holder (a temporary resident permit holder in Indonesia), you’ll need the following documents:

  1. KITAS of both parents
  2. Passports of both parents
  3. Marriage Certificate (original)
  4. Letter from the Hospital confirming the birth (original)
  5. SKTT (Letter of Domicile) for the parents

Step 2: The Birth Certificate Process

Here’s a step-by-step breakdown of what to do once you’ve gathered your documents:

  1. Process Your SKTT (Letter of Domicile): This is the first step, and it can be done even before your baby is born. The SKTT proves your legal residency status in Indonesia and is a requirement for several steps in the registration process.
  2. Obtain the Birth Letter (Surat Lahir) from the Hospital: Once your baby is born, the hospital will issue a birth letter. This is a necessary document for processing the birth certificate.
  3. Register at the Civil Registry (Dispendukcapil): With the birth letter in hand, head to your local Dispendukcapil (the Civil Registration Office) to officially register your baby’s birth. You’ll need to provide the birth letter and the required documents listed earlier.
  4. Specify Your Baby’s Citizenship: If you and your partner are from different countries, you’ll need to specify which citizenship your baby will hold. This is important as the birth certificate will need to reflect this information.

Step 3: Get the Baby’s Passport

Once the birth certificate is processed and you have all the official paperwork, you can apply for your baby’s passport. This will be done at the embassy of your home country. Make sure to bring all the necessary documents, including the newly issued birth certificate and both parents’ passports.

Step 4: Register the Birth at the Immigration Office

After obtaining your baby’s passport, it’s time to register the birth with the Indonesian Immigration Office. This needs to be done within 60 days of birth to comply with Indonesian law. The required documents for this step include:

  • Your baby’s Passport (original)
  • Passports of both parents
  • KITAS of both parents
  • SKTT (Letter of Domicile) of both parents
  • Birth Certificate of the baby

Step 5: Apply for Your Baby’s KITAS

Finally, once your baby’s birth is officially registered, you can begin the process of applying for their KITAS. This is a temporary residence permit that allows your child to stay legally in Indonesia. The process for applying for a child’s KITAS is similar to that of an adult, but it’s important to have all your documentation in order.
