Coming to Bali? Remember to carry your passports, Bali visa and other travel documents with you at all times. A new immigration crackdown, announced in early August by Indonesia’s immigration minister, Agus Andrianto, is now underway across the island.
A special Bali immigration task force, known locally as “Satgas” and consisting of 100 officers, is being deployed to popular tourist spots to conduct random checks on visitors. These areas include Canggu, Seminyak, Kerobokan, Sanur, Benoa, Uluwatu, Bingin, Mertasari, Kuta, Nusa Dua, Ubud, and Legian.
This campaign aims to reduce visa overstays and the misuse of visas while also ensuring stricter enforcement of immigration rules.
The task force’s deployment follows a recent increase in overstaying and other visa offences this year. You can see videos of the checks on the Indonesia Immigration Instagram page.
To identify the special task force, look for officers in navy and black uniforms with body cameras and security vests marked “IMMIGRATION.”
Under Indonesia’s Immigration Law No. 6 of 2011, Article 71 requires all foreigners to present their documents when asked by officials.
While Article 116 allows for penalties for non-compliance, officers have so far only issued warnings during recent patrols.
