Silver Hair Visa

Silver Hair Visa vs. Retirement KITAS: Which Bali Visa is Right for You?

There’s a brand new visa that lets you stay in Bali and Indonesia for up to 5 years at a time; it also lets you bring your spouse and children, plus you’re free to exit and return to the country whenever you wish.

It’s called the Silver Hair Visa, and it was made for foreigners who are at least 60 years of age. You’re probably wondering why it sounds just like the Retirement KITAS, but you should know that there are major differences and benefits that only Silver Hair Visa holders will enjoy.

Let’s take a look.

Fantastic Benefits With The Silver Hair Visa

The Silver Hair Visa comes with plenty of benefits, and one of them is long-term stability. You’ll get a five-year stay permit right from the start, which means no administrative stress from having to renew your visa every year.

There will also be fewer visits to the Immigration Office, less paperwork and no annual stress from deadlines and/or approvals.

So what’s the trade-off? Obviously, it’s financial – applicants are required to place a deposit of approximately USD 50,000 into an Indonesian state-owned bank in their own name.

This is by no means a fee – the money remains yours – but it does need to sit there as proof of financial capacity. In addition to that, you’ll need to show sufficient monthly funds to cover living expenses, at approximately USD 2,000-3,000 per month.

Under the Silver Hair Visa, working or earning local income in Indonesia is strictly not allowed.

What About The Retirement KITAS?

The Retirement KITAS, by contrast, is more well-known as it is the more traditional and flexible route, ideal for foreigners aged 55 and above who want to spend their golden years in Bali and Indonesia.

It’s issued for one year at a time, must be renewed annually and is the obvious choice for those who do not want to lock up a large bank deposit. You do still need to demonstrate stable income or pension funds, also in the range of approximately USD 3,000 per month.

Retirement KITAS holders will also need a licensed local sponsor or visa agent to process the application and each renewal. Over time – often after around five consecutive renewals – some retirees may become eligible to apply for a Retirement KITAP, which offers a longer-term stay of up to 5 years.

Which One Is For You?

Which visa should you choose? The Silver Hair Visa is clearly designed for retirees who already know Indonesia is home and want certainty from day one, with minimal paperwork and fewer immigration visits.

The Retirement KITAS suits those who prefer a lower upfront commitment, don’t mind annual renewals, or are still testing whether long-term life in Indonesia is the right fit.

In both cases, the rules are broadly the same: neither visa allows you to work in Indonesia, both allow you to bring dependents such as a spouse and children (subject to conditions), and health insurance covering your stay is typically required.

Stay Longer In Bali

Whether you choose the Silver Hair Visa or the Retirement KITAS depends completely on your preferences and financial capabilities.

If you’re willing and are able to deposit USD 50,000, prefer less paperwork and fewer renewals and want 5 years of stability from Day One, then the Silver Hair Visa is for you.

On the other hand, if you don’t want to or aren’t able to place a large deposit, don’t mind renewing your visa yearly and are okay appointing a local sponsor or an agent as your sponsor, then go for the Retirement KITAS.

The choice is yours, and MPG Bali Visa is here to help you make your Bali visa journey as smooth and as seamless as possible!
