Visa-free in Bali

Australians May Soon Enjoy 30 Days Visa-Free In Bali

Australians coming to the island may soon be able to enjoy 30 visa-free days in Bali! While this news was reported on Sydney.Explores Instagram account, keep in mind that this policy change has not yet been approved or implemented by the Indonesian authorities.

Until the new visa-free regulation is officially passed, Australian travellers coming to Bali must still obtain a Bali Visa On Arrival or a Visit Visa and pay the associated fees. If you’re travelling soon, be sure to check the latest Bali visa requirements before departure.

What’s Being Proposed?

According to news outlets, Indonesia’s Ministry of Tourism, led by Minister Widiyanti Wardhana, has formally proposed a 30-day visa-free entry policy for citizens from eight countries, including Australia.

If approved, the new policy would remove the need for Australians to obtain a Bali visa for short-term holidays. It would also help reduce travel costs, speed up processing times at Bali’s I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport, and further boost tourism.

Australians travelling to Bali would be able to spend up to 30 days on the island without having to go through the extra step of applying and paying for a Bali Visa On Arrival.

However, until the new regulation officially comes into effect, Australian tourists travelling to Bali must continue to apply for a Bali Visa On Arrival or a Visit Visa, with the latter being more suitable for travellers planning a longer stay in Bali.

If the proposal is approved, citizens of South Korea, Japan, New Zealand and India, as well as Singapore Permanent Residents, would also be eligible for 30 days of visa-free entry when travelling to Bali and the rest of Indonesia.

Countries Currently Eligible for Bali Visa-Free Entry

Indonesia currently grants 30-day visa-free entry (Visa Exemption) to citizens from 16 countries and territories travelling to Bali and the rest of Indonesia. These include Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, the Philippines, Cambodia, Brunei Darussalam, Myanmar, Laos, Timor-Leste, Hong Kong (SAR), Türkiye, Brazil, Colombia, Peru and Suriname.

The current Bali visa-free entry rules include:

  • Tourism only: Visa-free entry is strictly for tourism purposes.
  • Maximum stay of 30 days: Your stay cannot exceed 30 days and cannot be extended under any circumstances. If you plan to stay in Bali for longer than 30 days, you will need to apply for a Bali Visa On Arrival (VoA) or another suitable Bali visa before travelling.
  • Entry requirements: Travellers entering Bali must hold a passport valid for at least six months and present proof of an onward or return ticket out of Indonesia.

While waiting to see if the proposed visa-free policy for Australians is officially approved, travellers should continue applying for the correct Bali Visa On Arrival, Visit Visa, or any other type of Bali visa before travelling.
