6 Must-Visit Waterfalls In Bali

Visiting Bali’s beautiful waterfalls is a must-do activity if you’re planning a trip to the island. Just an hour away from Seminyak and Canggu, Ubud is renowned for its stunning natural scenery, including rice paddies and mountains. It’s no wonder that there are several beautiful waterfalls in Ubud nestled amidst hills and mountains. Here is a list of must-visit waterfalls in Ubud, Bali.

  1. Tibumana Waterfall

Tibumana Waterfall is a popular destination for both locals and foreigners. This 20-meter-high waterfall features two streams with a gentle flow. There’s a shallow pool in the middle, perfect for wading in, swimming or cooling down.

The path to Tibumana Waterfall is quite easy to navigate, with a paved walkway and handrails. To reach Tibumana Waterfall, you’ll need to cross a wooden bridge. Facilities available at this Ubud waterfall include toilets, showers, and gazebos for relaxing.

2. Tegenungan Waterfall

Tegenungan Waterfall is another popular spot for those seeking a natural experience close to nature while in Bali. Tegenungan Waterfall, a 15-meter cascade, tumbles over rocks into a serene pool below. Its inviting, shallow waters offer a perfect respite from the heat.

Photographers can make full use of photo spots like a wooden bridge that is strategically placed to face the waterfall. There are other props available to use for photo spots including heart-shaped branches,  birds’ nests, and swings. Access to Tibumana Waterfall is also quite easy, with steps and handrails to assist you on the way down.

  1. Kanto Lampo Waterfall

This stunning waterfall falls on sharp-tiered rocks and is nestled in a narrow ravine with lush vegetation growing on both walls and a river at its bottom leading deeper into the jungle. The rocks aren’t too sharp or too high, and brave visitors would usually climb on them for a picture. It’s a great place for a jungle getaway, although access can be limited especially for those with special needs or the elderly. Kanto Lampo Waterfall is believed to be a sacred waterfall and is often used as a location for traditional ceremonies. It’s a favourite waterfall for its mysterious ambience and a must-visit while you’re here in Bali.

  1. Goa Rang Reng Waterfall

Another unique waterfall in Ubud that you shouldn’t miss is Goa Rang Reng Waterfall. The water flows from a height of about 20 meters onto a 45-degree sloping cliff, unlike the other waterfalls you might see that fall straight down at an almost 90-degree angle. You can climb up to the top of the waterfall where there is a small pool to relax in. Remember to be respectful when you’re here – the waterfall is another sacred site for the Balinese with a cave nearby that is used for ceremonies and purification rituals. The cave is only accessible with a guide – do consider engaging with one for a small tip as you’ll be contributing to the village and its cultural traditions.

  1. Suwat Waterfall

A unique waterfall with twin “caves” on either side leading away from the water, there is also a pool with a bamboo raft that you can use for photos. The waterfall itself plunges down from a cleft in the rock formation from a 15-metre height into a secluded pool surrounded by towering rock walls. From the entrance, you will need to walk down a few steps to reach the waterfall. The path can be steep, especially for those not accustomed to walking but the end result will be breathtaking!

  1. Tukad Cepung Waterfall

This is a unique waterfall that’s located inside a cave within a rocky canyon and is about 28 km from the centre of Ubud. Thanks to its unique setting, it’s a definite must-visit – it’s great for photographs especially when the sunlight hits the cascades as it pours through the opening in the formation. The pathway leading to the cave can be a bit of a challenge – just follow the trail through the jungle and be prepared to get wet!
